Bueno dias hay todos!
Today we had the opportunity to go do service at a compost site that is run by a kind woman named Jarssey whose been working for Cero Basura Organic Waste for about three years and she working for this business because she saw how big of a problem the landfills were, not only in Mexico, but everywhere.
First we learned about the three different ways to process all the compost they get from local restaurants and even homes. We also learned the importance of using compost and how it impacts the community in such a positive way. It was such a great opportunity to help out and do something way bigger than ourselves. Many students were beyond happy to be there and saw this as such a great opportunity to spread their love and kindness by putting their efforts into helping the earth.
During our service block we spent our time taking the ready to compost food and putting it in bins, that in a couple days will be compost (thanks to worms). We also learned how to take dirt and turn it into soil that not only decreases pollution but also gives food for plants and helps them grow in a more natural way. Throughout the process of making the soil, we would put it in bags so it could be sold around Todo Santos and be put to use in gardens and homes.
We would measure these bags in kilos to make sure everything is properly distributed. Not only was this opportunity life changing, but eye opening as to how small steps can truly help improve not only a town, but the world. A ton of love was spread throughout the day and the service made a strong and long lasting impact on everyone. I am so excited for the next days of our journey and can’t wait to continue doing more service soon!Adios!
