Hi ya’ll from the island life!
My name is Sav. I am one of the eight seniors at Link and this blog will be an intro to our island adventures of kayaking, classes, and ocean learning! We spent five nights on the island kayaking and moving from beach to beach. We had an awesome crew of cooks and guides that conversed with us in Spanish and taught us many lessons and fun facts about the island of Isla Espiritu Santo. As a view into one of the many things we did in English class, I wrote about poem my experience on the island. I also included six word stories from some of our other students.
Sea turtles bobbing, look, sinking away.
Grab your flippers, follow me to the sea lion colony.
A rocky hike, a hard paddle, and thirty random questions.
Pull a chair up and get your notebooks out for class in the sun.
A rising and flooding tide, meals full of pinks, greens, and oranges.
Shrimp tacos, soups, and fish and rice.
A shooting star above head while laying in your sleeping bag in the sand.
Take a deep breath, glance at the ocean, at last—you are right where you need to be.
Big wave, little wave, everything goes. -Syd
Sailboats afar, fish tacos in hand. -Kaylah
Waves crashing down, yet perfect serenity. -Maya
Now I believe in real beauty. -Sia
Soft breaths of turtles destroy worry. -Sky
From many games of bananagrams to kayaking in the open ocean, there’s never a dull moment with any of the Link students or staff. After being stuck on an island with them, you return with funny memories and a lot of jokes.
Adios, familia!
-Sav
