Being my first year at The Link School I was excited to travel internationally with a big group for the first time. Today (1.11.23) was the first full day of being in beautiful Mexico. We woke to the most amazing bluebird day, with the sound of waves crashing just below our rooms at Los Colibres.
The waves were huge, crashing almost directly onto the beach, and it seemed as if it would be impossible for anyone or anything to cross the thundering boom of whitewash. I was proven wrong.
A thought our group had talked about prior to beginning our adventures in Mexico came to me. The idea was that the loudness and unrest of our earth is nature’s way of glorifying God.
This thought stuck with me as we had the amazing experience of watching local fisherman time launching their boats with the waves and head off to fish for the day. It was a fascinating process where one boat would be pulled by a rope connected to another boat at the perfect time when the sets were smaller, then race out as fast as they could, lowering their motors precisely where the water was deep enough. The chaos the waves seemed to bring was non-existent in the minds of the fishermen. Generations had fished at this takeoff beach, Playa Punta Lobos, and it was inspiring to see the ways the fishermen worked with the waves instead of fearing them.
We also got to enjoy watching the waves as we completed a beautiful hike, and we got the chance to swim in the warm waters of a majestic beach at the end of the hot journey. It was refreshing, and we all found many ways to work around the powerful waves that were fun and smooth. Watching everyone dive and dance through the waves, it was another example of how we cannot be harmed when nature is giving gratitude to God.
Lastly, we had the amazing opportunity to release baby tortugas (turtles). We named them as we released them into the sea. Many of the waves were overhead, and we got to see again the harmony that all things share – our tortugas made it out to sea.
Watching the most beautiful sunset on the beach after the turtle release solidified this idea of God’s glorification in nature. The beauty that is around us every day – whether it comes in forms of thrashing trees, blowing snow, or booming waves – is testament to the infinite harmony and gratitude all things possess.
