Hola!
We have been in Mexico for a good while now! During the first week we had a TON of activities, and they were all so fun – I especially loved the morning Spanish classes. We had Spanish for about three hours each morning, starting right after breakfast and spiritual prep, and they went until just before lunchtime.
We had three classes, split into the Spanish I, Spanish II, and Spanish III classes.
In my Spanish I class we played a lot of games, including one called Mano which means hand. We used this game to learn to count by 10’s and 100’s and it was very competitive at times. Each student was given a small stack of cards and would take turns going around and counting by tens. When the number aligned with the card laid down, everyone would race to get their hand on the pile, because the last one to do so would have to take the deck. We had a few competitive arguments about the game, but plenty of laughs to make up for it! Our class also learned a lot of new vocabulary about food, different verbs, and other important vocab to help us get around, such as directions. We also learned a bit about how to conjugate verbs in the past tense.
The Spanish II class played Simon Says, went on a few nature walks, and learned pronouns. They also spent lots of time practicing how to conjugate in the preterite and imperfect tense.
The Spanish III class worked a lot on commands and practiced a lot of advanced grammar while always making sure there was enough time to play guess the animal. This class also got to know their teacher by learning about his soccer team.Just because our Spanish classes ended at lunch doesn’t mean that the learning didn’t continue. We had a lot of different activities that helped us learn more about the culture and pick up lots of new vocabulary. We have also had a little downtime, including a nice day at the beach when the sun was out and the waves were tall.
Now we are off to the next section of our adventure!
Vamanos y hasta luego!
