I’ve often thought if Link School had been around when I was in High School I would have dropped everything to attend!
My interest in the mountains and my love of the outdoors started many years ago when I attended camp at the A/U Ranches. I took part in a mountaineering program where we spent two weeks backpacking and camping in the beautiful Collegiate Range Mountains. I was hooked!
So began the thread that has continued through my life. I went on to get my degree and credential in Elementary Education at Principia College with a focus on experiential learning and outdoor education. Other opportunities included a semester at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS,) a trip to Guatemala to study biology and a teachers practicum training program with Colorado Outward Bound School.
Fast forward, I’m married with two sons both of whom attended The Link School, one his senior year, Link year two and the other his sophomore year, Link year four. It was a tremendous, life changing experience for both of them.
As residents of the San Francisco Bay Area our family has taken full advantage of the many hiking trails in the area. We’ve also enjoyed skiing and white water rafting here in Northern California.
While raising our boys, I had a wonderful career teaching science at our local elementary school. There, I had many opportunities to share my love of the outdoors with my students.
In the past few years I’ve had the opportunity to travel and trek in Nepal, Peru and Bhutan. In 2018, I travelled with 22 college students to Greece, Italy and Turkey on a Principia Study Abroad program.
I’m very grateful to be able to support The Link School as a board member as it embodies all that I value and love about experiential learning and education.
