Today was a magical day. After a full day of travel and a wonderful sleep, I woke up in paradise. Todos Santos! Through the open windows, we heard the waves crashing all night. I am here in Mexico with 11 of my classmates and a handful of Link School staff. This spot on the Baja Peninsula feels so familiar to me. This is my third trip here with the school.
After a delicious breakfast, we start our day with spiritual prep where we read the Bible Lesson out loud. These inspirations get us excited and prepared for the day. We will spend 4 hours every morning for the next 5 days honing our Spanish speaking skills with local teachers. We are so lucky to have these talented instructors come work with us year after year. These classes are long and challenging, but the teachers mix it up with games. Plus, you are in class with your closest friends. I feel my foreign language confidence growing! During a break between class, I was staring off at the ocean. The palm trees and the lagoon gave the already beautiful view a foreground. The waves slowly curled, just like in the movies, and the pelicans glided just below the rising water.
In the afternoon, we all jumped in the vans and headed into town for a walking history tour of Todos Santos. We were standing on history. As we made our way around town, we learned all about how the Baja Peninsula was explored and developed. Our guide was so knowledgeable and brought the story to life for us.
At dinner in town at one of the local restaurant’s we all got the opportunity to practice our Spanish when weordered. The waitress was friendly and patient with us, and her bright smile made us all want to try harder. They fed us an incredible meal, and we headed back to the hotel full and tired. But not too tired to fit in a swim in the dark!
Today was a perfect day to start our adventure.
