It’s Always a Beautiful Day in Baja

If I were to pick one word to describe today I would choose beautiful. We had Spanish class in the morning, as we have for the past few days. Today though, after classes were over and our brains were  properly exhausted, we went for a hike. We hiked up a steep incline, where the deep blue sea shone below us, absolutely gleaming with beauty. The ocean is one of those mystical and wonderful things that will always be able to take my breath away.

As we took our lunch break at the peak of the mountain, we shared laughter and jokes. We were able to look down at the beautiful ocean from where we all sat devouring our BLT-type sandwiches. We all talked about different things while we were sitting there on that rock. It was truly one of the best, most laughter filled, yet peaceful moments of the day.

Our guide asked us a question while we were there: “What do all the plants from where we are sitting now, to where we will end our hike, have in common?” We were all stumped and made semi random guesses including but not limited to, “They’re all green,” “They all grow” and, “They all exist.” *Hint the sarcasm in all of these responses.* Finally, we got the answer she was guiding us towards, “They’re all getting smaller as we get higher on the mountain!” This seemed pretty funny to us because, upon observation, it was clear this was a fact.

On this hike, we got to learn about so many different things, including the many many many different types of cactus that are native here to Baja and the animals that live in the dessert. Best of all, when we got to the beach at the end of the hike, we sat in the sand and all watched whales jumping. It was truly such a beautiful day. But to be fair, it’s always a beautiful day when you’re in Baja!!
