¡Hola todos!
Today we voyaged from the lovely town of Todos Santos to the outskirts of La Paz. We are camping at the fishing village of Las Pacas. Our hosts are Don Santiago and Doña Mati.
We began our day with breakfast and Sunday School. After packing up all of our belongings, we thanked and said goodbye to the staff at Quinta Santa Rosa as well as to Andrea, our formidable and friendly week one guide. Next stop: La Paz!
After a peaceful drive to La Paz, we navigated a dirt road to Las Pacas. We were instantly welcomed by Don Santiago and Doña Mati into their community. The warmth and hospitality were palpable. We toured the community and were given an explanation of how arroyos, the sea, and the dunes all work together. Later, we learned how tourism can and should be helpful to a destination.
Following the presentations, we watched in awe as Don Santiago and Doña Mati cast their fishing nets from their 18 foot blue-and-white skiffs. Conversations in both Spanish and English floated through the crisp air. The water of the Gulf of California was glassy and mirror-like, reflecting the muted orange from the setting sun. Dolphins broke this glassy surface by poking their fins out of the water close to shore.
What blessings will tomorrow bring? That I do not know, but I know that they will be very good.
