As a lifelong learner, I am passionate about all sciences and outdoor education, which is why I am especially thrilled to accept the responsibility as science teacher at Link. Growing up in Southern California, I looked forward to my summers at the A/U Ranches, where I first developed my relationship with God and a deep fascination with my natural surroundings. Throughout my time at the ranches, I witnessed the importance of community and how both self- and relationship-development is deeply enhanced when accompanied by the stage of nature.
After playing soccer and baseball for four years and traveling to Mongolia for my capstone research on grassland and water resources, I graduated from Principia College with BA’s in Environmental Studies and Sociology & Anthropology. I extended my time at Prin as a graduate assistant and coach while I earned my MS in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University. To say that I am curious, competitive, and like to travel would all be understatements.
Six years ago, I transitioned away from coaching full-time to teaching science when a position opened up at my middle school alma mater, Berkeley Hall. While serving as the elementary and then middle school science teacher, I led outdoor education trips to Yosemite and Catalina, developed two gardens on campus with an Urban Farming elective, and taught several topics of science, including biology, geology, astronomy, physics, and chemistry. During that time I also made tremendous gains in my personal life; I became an uncle to two incredible nephews, and became an avid student of permaculture, holistic management, and, most recently, soil ecology.
I am excited to live in Buena Vista full time for the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow.
